Crossing Nason Creek

Crossing Nason Creek

BNSF 7909 with a fistful of "Rent a Wrecks" leads a BNSF stack train west across BNSF Bridge 1694.1 over Nason Creek.
(Nason Creek was what John Stevens followed when finding the GN route across the Cascades)
It's hard to hear a westbounder here, there's usually a lot of wind in this canyon on a warm day plus they are around the bend towards Merritt. You can hear the welded track "singing" quite a while before the train comes into view.
You can hear an eastbounder before you see them if the winds not to strong. You also can hear the detector to the east at Merritt, and the two detectors to the west between here and the tunnel.

I would have thought it would be easier to hear westbounds better than eastbounds because westbounds are practicually crawling up the hill. The eastbounds are just cruseing down the hill.

In the couple years I've been coming here, the wind has always been blowing "downhill" following Nason Creek. This carries the sound from the eastbounder down the canyon even tho it's running easier downhill. The wind probably pushes the westbounder's noise back towards Merritt
