Ballard Terminal Railroad #98, dragging eight loads of cement bound for Salmon Bay Sand & Gravel pauses for a switch to be relined. The 1940-built SW1 was working hard tonight.
That's a great photo, but isn't the crew concerned about the possibility of lineside fires? The shortline in my neck of the woods strained their SW1200 and set off a dozen fires on a hot summer night a few years ago.
 
Actually, we did watch that closely and the conductor drove back along the line after we were done. Also, the locomotive is not unattended as it may appear in the photo since I was both the engineer and the photographer. :)
 
Thats probably the hardest that engine has worked in a over a year. Bravo for your business up there.
