C40-8's!

Two C40-8's lead MPRDM as it pulls towards the Clear Creek crossovers near Colo, IA. UP 9027 is unusually clean for a UP engine!
I was told that these units (at least the 1st) are actually C41-8, the spotting difference being the 2 vertical grabs on the front of the short hood identifying them as ex-CNW units. Either way, it's a very handsome unit, quite photographic and captured well in your shot. Nice work.

You could be right Ken. Both are indeed ex-CNW Dash 8's. All the 9023-9099 units are. CNW 8501-8542 were C40-8's. CNW 8543-8577 were C41-8's. If UP renumbered them in the same order that CNW had them (this one would be 8505 if that is correct), this particular one would be a C40. Knowing UP, some further investigation will need to be done!
