What's the story with those decals?

BNSF 2075 is one of two ex-BN GP38-2's that BN painted in a "Pacific Pride" scheme honoring the railroads that were merged in March of 1970 to form the BN. I think the other one was 2085, but it was wrecked some time ago and no longer has the logos. The paint scheme is a normal BN Green and Black, but with "Pac. Pride II" (2085 was the "Pac. Pride I") lettering on the nose and the logos of the seven railroads that made up the BN on both sides of the hood. I've only seen this locomotive once, and that was from another train. I didn't even know I saw it untill I looked at my nose shot of it. Too bad BNSF has let the old logos get so worn down.

Warren, you almost have it correct. The 2075 was the "Pacific Pride". It was taken out of service (electrical fire?) and the 2085 took it's place as the "Pacific Pride II". The 2075 was later returned to service. The 2085 retained it's special decals until repainted BNSF H1 in 2000.

OK. Thanks for the corrections Rob. I guess I saw the 2085 then, as I remember seeing the "Pac. Pride II" on the nose. Learn something new every day. I thought it was a wreck, but now that you said electrical fire, I think you're right on what happened to the 2075. I hadn't realized the 2085 got repainted into H1.
