ALCo meet

Kagaru is a crossing loop about an hour south of Brisbane, on the main line to Sydney. When this photo was taken on August 1990, it was still a working museum of small crossing loops and an archaic signalling system which resulted in train lengths almost of toy train dimensions. But for the photographer, this all meant a reasonable frequency of trains and regular occurrence such as shown here. And for an Alcophile like me, the other great attraction of this line was the dominance of ALCo products. Much has now changed: longer loops and longer, fewer trains and GE locos now rule.

But today I'll just remember this scene of a south bound empty steel train crossing a north bound general freight in the early light of a misty late winter's day.
