UP Dunsmuir Line outside of Roseville CA. This de-railment happened just before Christmas, 2003. 24 ars left the track.
No official cause has been given, it is still under investigation. The head of the southbound train from Portland, Oregon had just crossed the road crossing in the background when the cars began leaving the track. The usual speed of train at that spot is 40 mph. No one was injured.

UPDATE: It was a broken axle on a BNSF boxcar
