WASHINGTON – Amtrak has extended its lowest fares of the year for Acela and Northeast Regional (NER) trains, so customers can receive extra savings when traveling throughout the Northeast, which combine 30 percent savings with the ongoing Saver Fares for travel through Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020. The sale is available for purchase through Wednesday, Sept. 30, and exchanges and refunds can be processed upon customer request also through that date.

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has begun taking delivery on 88 new Siemens “Venture” single-level passenger cars. According to WSP USA Senior Engineering Manager Art Peterson, who supplied these photos to Railway Age, the first four arrived in Chicago in mid-August, and four more are en route.

The Siemens/IDOT contract dates to November 2017, when Caltrans and IDOT amended a $317 million contract for new passenger cars, replacing Nippon Sharyo with Siemens, which partnered with Sumitomo Corp. of America to fulfill a delayed multi-state order. The revised contract involved 137 single-level passenger railcars—49 for Caltrans and 88 for IDOT. Four Round Trips to Operate Between Brunswick and Boston Daily Beginning July 20
PORTLAND, MAINE – The Northern New England Passenger Rail Authority (NNEPRA) announced today that the Amtrak Downeaster will begin operating four round-trip trains between Brunswick, ME and Boston, MA every day beginning on Monday, July 20, 2020 as it enters Phase 2 of service restoration.
