Default Advice for a trip to C&TS and D&SNG

Me and my family are taking vacation and we're going to ride the C&TS and the D&SNG. And I've seen some AMAZING pictures off of this site, and figured this would be the best place to ask for some advice. I want to get the best shots I can. One question I had is, what makes a picture 'scenic'? Is it having a mountain, or a bridge in the picture? Or the angle? Just any tips you could offer that might help.
