Welcome to the Railroad Employment section

Railroadforums.com is a free online Railroad Discussion Forum and Railroad Photo Gallery for railroaders, railfans, model railroaders and anyone else who is interested in railroads. This new section was created to consolidate all of the threads and questions about railroad employment that have been scattered throughout the various forums. I went through the Class I and Regional & Shortlines categories in the Freight Railroads and Regional & Shortline forums and transferred all the threads related to employment which were posted in 2014, 2013, and late 2012.

If you have a question regarding railroad employment, post it here. For those members who are already railroad employees, I encourage you to visit here and answer the questions so you can pass along your knowledge and experience to the next generation of railroaders. It is hardly surprising that some members of an internet forum for railfans might be interested in becoming railroaders in real life.

So, I did my test and interview here in the States last week Tuesday. I passed, they actually said that I scored the highest of the non railroaders in this hiring pool. They're taking 6 guys for the local yard; I haven't heard anything. I've called, emailed, and am about to pull my hair out.lol I know that's dramatic, but, they said the plan was to have us all report for school on July 31, 7 days from now. And I've heard nothing...any thoughts?

Just got my offer letter, and was wondering how the pay actually works? I get the on call part, but if I am on call, am I being paid even if I am waiting for a call?
