Spent last Saturday railfanning in Kalama,WA. Saw tons of train action=BNSF/UP/AMTRAK. More trains than we've seen in a long time. Got there around 7:30 AM. BNSF has been adding additional mainline trackage. They have 4 mains now from MP 111 through MP 105.61. Also have added new signals--1 called Harvest, which is just south of Kalama and then new lights in Kalama proper.
Plenty of good spots to park along Hendrickson Road and watch all the action. The city park and restrooms are indeed OPEN, and are well maintained.
Someone commented on an earlier thread about scenery. WHAT? There's plenty of wonderful scenery along the river and tracks. So dont know what they meant.

I've been visiting Kalama for years, and so far, appear to be the only railfan there. We never see anyone else catching trains. Maybe we need to set up a meet. What do you think Oregon and Washington railfans???
