No idea why they decided to go big on this, but they've been promoting the heck out of it all day long. If they're trying to make Amtrak look like a evil villain, they're doing a great job of it.

Besides, it's Amtrak, - conservative America's whipping boy.
 
The story wasn't as bad as I feared. They did mention the crash (obviously) but much of the story was a "feel good" story about how the teen has continued to recover and is making significant progress. Granted, this isn't exactly good PR for Amtrak, but there was no bashing the big evil railroad. It focused on how serious his injuries are and how hard he's working on getting some of his mobility back.
 
Any update on when the "new" line will be reopened for passenger service? I was in the area last weekend and it looks as though all repairs have been made.
