Historic 137-Year-Old Railroad in Southwestern Colorado Also Cancels 2018 Edition of Its Dinosaur Train Experience, The T-REX Express; Popular Scenic Railway to Give Full and Automatic Refunds to All Ticket Holders Whose Excursions Are Canceled

DURANGO, Colo. - June 5, 2018 - The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad (D&SNGRR), which offers distinctive year-round rail experiences and special events to passengers of all ages in the remote, scenic wilderness and high-mountain landscape of Colorado's San Juan National Forest, today announced it is extending the suspension of its coal-fired steam train steam passenger service through at least Sun., June 17, following extensive consultation with local authorities and agencies regarding their progress in containing the 416 Fire and the status of current fire, drought and weather conditions.

The D&SNGRR also announced today it is canceling the 2018 edition of its popular family-oriented dinosaur train experience, The T-REX Express, originally scheduled for the weekends of June 16-17 and June 23-24.

All guests whose coal-fired steam train and T-REX Express excursions are canceled as a result of this resolution will receive full, immediate and automatic ticket refunds. Ticket holders should allow 5-7 business days for their refunds to be processed and appear on their credit card statements.

As previously stated, the D&SNGRR, in conjunction with local authorities, agencies, and other important community leaders and stakeholders, is still evaluating the feasibility of launching limited-range diesel locomotive passenger service later in June once it is safe to do so. Once those plans are fully determined, the railroad will publicly announce all relevant details, including fares, schedules, and itineraries, associated with this new passenger service. In the meantime, the company encourages Durango-area visitors and impacted passengers to visit the D&SNGRR depot for scheduled railyard tours and free museum admission.

In an unexpected turn of events, the fire has also impacted the Mt Rainier Railroad in Elbe, WA (near Seattle)

American Heritage Railways, parent company of the Mt. Rainier Railroad and Logging Museum, today announced the #MRRR is suspending passenger service through August 3, 2018, due to the long-term operational and financial impact posed by the current #416Fire in Durango, Colorado on the overall business of #MRRR sister company, the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Additionally, the inaugural Train to Table event scheduled for Friday evenings in August has been canceled for this year. The #MRRR's Logging museum in Mineral, Wash., will remain open with limited hours during this time.
