Smart travel in America is finally here! On January 12th, 2018, American transportation history changed forever as Brightline embarked on its first ever public trip. South Florida has become the first region in America to bring back passenger rail run by a private company in style, speed, and comfort! This was our journey and thoughts on what it was like to ride on this watershed moment.

They seem to be doing well so far. A friend rode them, and he has nothing but good things to say about them.

What amazes me is that those are the same Seimens locomotives that Amtrak is using, just with a different nose. They look so much different, like a high speed train! Amazing what a bit of fiberglass (or whatever it is) will do.

I thought the same thing they really look sleek.

It looks like they have Two classes of service: Each train has three Smart coach cars and one Select coach car. The Select cars feature larger seats and complimentary food and beverages. After 3 p.m. on weekdays and after 11 a.m. on weekends, Select passengers also get one free alcoholic beverage on the train. Smart-car travelers can buy food and beverage items.

Those passenger car seats sure look comfortable. I wonder what type of security the trains will have?

Cost: Introductory fares are $10 each way for a seat in one of Brightline’s Smart Service cars. One-way tickets for a Select seat cost $15 or $20, depending on the time of day.

Children receive a discount: Tickets for children 12 and under are discounted by 50 percent. Seniors, active military and veterans get a 10 percent discount.
