Ever shot big UP steam? 844 will be heading thru Kansas and Missouri this month. You should try to catch that. Details on UP's website.

Uknown piece or rail from my great grandfather

Look up rail profiles on google. Guessing it would be in the 70-80 pound range. Pretty common all over the US back in the day.

    UP Funeral train

I'd bet every one of them will find a new home. 4 axle units are getting harder to buy these days.

    Wharton Switch - Questions

Look at the angle of that frog! Is that a #5 or #6?? Wow! Where is this switch located? The Ajax thing is a common cast Manganese guardrail. Those are common.

    Which route to North Platte?

Go up to Cheyenne and spend an hour at the depot. Plenty of train action to see there, plenty. Then leave Cheyenne and head east on I-80 to Pine Bluff. Jump off 80 and hit 30 east and it will follow the UP main all the way to North Platte. You will see plenty of trains along the route with...

A Look at Seymour, NE, USA on the Union Pacific

Now you are in my old stomping grounds for sure. I have photos of 8444 passing under this bridge on the old CNW line that ran up to Arlington. Now I'm going to have to dig them out.

SD40-2 Locomotives and Cabooses in 2016

I remember those Mo=Pac cabooses well. We used to jump on them at 60th and Center and ride them all the way down to 72nd & Q street in Omaha, then walk over to the super slide! Back then the crews were pretty cool about it and didn't really care. I remember one time we were trying to hop on and...

    Downtown Omaha, NE 1-21-2016

I had a slide collection of 135,000 railroad slides that spanned from the 50's all the way up to the mid 2000's. If you look at the images from just even 25 years ago and compare them to today, it's very obvious how generic railroads have become. You could look at a slide of about any rail yard...

    Downtown Omaha, NE 1-21-2016

Nope. You have to come up to Missouri Valley anymore to catch the action it seems. I don't know anymore. the power all looks the same. All the cars are generic anymore. Almost isn't any fun to shoot film anymore.

    The Nebraska Central Railroad Thread

Turns out UP 428 is a rock star! It was the last steam locomotive to pull a passenger train on the UP, long after the Northerns, Challengers, and Big Boys were gone. And she is still alive today at the Illinois Railroad Museum! http://www.irm.org/railwire/rw170a1.html

Speaking of the Ord branch. Here is a pic from my former slide collection of the bridge just south of Elba. no date. Want to go back someday and capture the scene with a Neb Cent train in the same place. Trestle still exsist.

    Midwest Railfan Trip Suggestions

Most look to be the SD90's, but I'm no motive power guru. There were some old CNW units there and even a GP-38 for a while, don't know if those are still in the line-up or not. BTW, the UP caboose is now relocated along hiway 30 and is currently being repainted in it's original UP colors. There...

    Midwest Railfan Trip Suggestions

I can confirm that LPL's does indeed have good food. We were rebuilding some track last week down at the Bartlett elevator and ate there as usual. Food was good, as usual. Another place to eat on the south side of Council Bluffs is Jonesy's Taco House. They have great food there, nice place...

Rain washes out bridge on UP Sioux City line

Total loss of the structure. Happened right after a train crossed. I wondered why Hulcher was running around Missouri Valley today! http://www.wowt.com/home/headlines/Collapsed-Rail-Bridge-Under-Repair-After-Close-Call-322461451.html?utm_source=facebook_WOWT_6_News

Where are they spotting the cars in Elba? Last time I was there none of the sidings looked intact.

Movable point frog. All swithces have moving points, unless it's a stub switch, and those have been gone forever.
